William SANDS

    Né en 1980 à Nairobi, William Sands est un photographe documentaire et un journaliste indépendant en même temps qu’un père de famille installé à Barcelone (Espagne) . William a étudié les sciences politiques et la mondialisation ainsi que la création littéraire au Hampshire College à Amherst dans le Massachusetts.
    Activiste de la première heure, militant en particulier pour l’abolition des prisons, William est guidé dans son travail de photographe documentaire par sa foi inébranlable dans les droits à la liberté d’expression individuelle. C’est dans cet esprit que William a contribué à la création du collectif Fractures Photo au printemps 2011. Fractures Photo est une structure non hiérarchique qui a pour ambition de promouvoir la photographie documentaire en tant que défi au pouvoir institutionnel.
    William est toujours en quête de sujets susceptibles de brouiller les tendances rhétoriques simplificatrices et, par là même, de remettre en question les discours dominants.
